Let's talk Videography...

Updated: Jan 20

This week I wanted to talk about videography.

For those of you that don’t know, this is Dan. Dan covers the videography for us here at Jonathan David. Not only is he a thoroughly nice bloke and a huge asset to your day, but he’s also INCREDIBLY talented and a wizard when it comes to wedding videography.

So in this week's blog, I wanted to put Dan in the spotlight, and give you all the chance to get to know him a little better, as you’ll all no doubt benefit from having Dan alongside me on your big day.

I’ve compiled a list of questions, which I think, will really drive home the benefit of having both photography and videography with us, as frankly, we wouldn’t trust anyone else!

So, Dan, let’s start with the important question first! It’s the evening reception, what song is getting you on the dance floor?

From a professional standpoint - the first dance and then you have a job kicking me off haha but you can’t beat September – Earth, Wind & Fire to get the party started – even though I’m more of a rocker myself.

Like myself, I know you’ve got years of experience in the wedding industry, but what first made you want to film weddings?

I didn’t (Wrong answer Dan!) I said I would never do weddings. My very first wedding I did to help someone who really needed an extra shooter... then I kinda got hooked. Seeing the emotion of the day and just how happy people are becoming is a little addictive.

Capturing a couple's whole wedding is so rewarding, but what’s the best bit for you?

The best bit... how am I supposed to choose that?! It’s so different at every wedding but the one thing that is consistent is the happy faces and the warm feeling you get when you’ve taken your last shots, ask the couple if there is anything else they’d like before you go and they are so overwhelmingly happy with the day and the things you’ve captured.

I’m sure you’ll agree, attending weddings you bear witness to all kinds of out-of-the-ordinary occurrences, but what’s the best moment you’ve ever caught on camera?

The craziest thing I’ve filmed at a wedding was a filming a horse ride whilst hanging off the back of a quad bike. I don’t think I can place anything as solidly “the best” but that was certainly the most challenging!

In this industry, not only do we all work hard, we play harder! When you’re not busy capturing a wedding, what do you like to get up to in your spare time?

I play the guitar and sing in two cover bands. I love the outdoors and nature. I am fortunate enough to have made the things I love most (camera work and music) my career so I kinda feel like I’m living the dream at a wedding anyway!

I personally love your style of Film making, but to those who haven’t seen some of your amazing work, how would you describe your style of videography?

I’d describe it as capturing Fun, Family and Emotion in a Cinematic way.

They say a picture paints a thousand words, but clearly whoever wrote that quote had never had the opportunity and pleasure of having a film made about them, but why should couples add videography to their package?

You know how you can look at a photo and how seeing someone’s face reminds you of them and the emotions you felt towards them and sometimes the emotions you were feeling at that very moment... Imagine that, but hearing them as well. Hearing the emotion pouring out of people as they say their vows and speeches... it takes you right back into the room and brings everything back... that’s why.

And there we have it!

From a personal perspective, I can’t speak highly enough of Dan’s work, and I implore you to add Videography to your package. Dan's attention to detail, sense of humour, and ability to effectively capture your day in just the way you’d want it, is second to none.

If you’re on the fence about adding Videography to your package, I really hope just these short few questions and answers are enough to convince you. You won't regret it.

There are already lots of couples adding Dan's filmmaking prowess to their wedding day packages, and the diary is filling up nice and quickly, so pop me a message. I’d love to have a chat about how we can take your special day to the next level!

As always, I’ll be back with another blog next Sunday!

Peace, Love and Photos.
