Why you should be having Engagement Photos...

It's that time of the week again sports fans!

I thought I'd steer clear of a story this week and center this week's blog around some actual tangible wedding and photography advice, so today I want to talk to you about engagement shoots.

I'm going to break this down into 5 easily digestible (and tasty) morsels of knowledge, that give my honest views on why you should be having an engagement shoot, regardless of whether you book with me or any photographer.

So why do I think you should have an engagement shoot?

  1. 9/10, and unless you know your photographer prior to your big day, the chances are you'll have never met before. You're trusting this person to capture one of the biggest days of your lives and paying good money for the privilege. It's hugely important that you meet this person before the day, build a connection and let them get to know you both as a couple.

  2. Most couples have probably only ever taken selfies together, and for the most part, it'll be their first time in front of a professional photographer. Engagement shoots give you the opportunity to get all the awkwardness out of the way, break some barriers, and give your photographer a chance to develop prompts and tips ready to get those all-important smiles on-demand ready for the big day.

  3. People spend endless amounts of time planning weddings, and in some cases have accounted for every single minute throughout the duration of the day. Engagement shoots are different, they don't have strict time constraints, and every photo taken is about you as a couple, rather than your guests too.

  4. Getting engaged is a big life event in itself, so why not celebrate it with some photos as well as the wedding? Speak to your photographer, and suggest somewhere that has meaning to you both as a couple. Where did you both meet? Where was your favourite first date spot? Where was the spot you actually got engaged? Pick a place that's personal and your photos will naturally look amazing.

  5. There's a big buzz around people crafting their own items for their wedding, from favours to table plans, more couples are electing to put together their own little trinkets and ornaments to display to make their day unique. I've had a good handful of couples use engagement photo's in their save the dates and wedding invites. Show those pics off! Maybe get one printed on canvas and display it around the venue on your big day?

As you can see, engagement shoots are hugely important. I want to effectively capture your wedding and this is exactly why I include FREE engagement shoots in all my packages to ensure you and your guests get the most from my packages.

I think that should about do it for this week, so I'll leave it at that. It's Sunday, and I fancy a beer!

Peace out ✌
